Zitat von ©2018 ABBA The MuseumAlles anzeigen
Frida: After ABBA’s official pause in 1982, I was a little lost. Music wasn’t my primary focus during those years. Repairing myself as a person was more important. During some of those difficult times, I was listening to Phil Collin’s Face Value, and I started feeling a new inspiration, and a lust for music again. I thought, „If I’m going to do something new now, I’d want Phil Collins to produce it.“ That was my dream, but – Phil Collins producing Frida? No, that would never happen! But it did.
Phil Collins:
I said to Frida at the beginning of the bit when we first met, „What kind oft hing are you doing?“ She said, „I don’t really know.“ She had just gotten divorced, and had been separated for a year. I think she was the injured party in the same way that I was in my divorce. For about eight months she was basically - well not just listening to my record, but she listened to it. And I guess it twanged a few strings.
Frida: To step out of a safe format and into something completely unkown – where I was going to be a soloist instead of a member of a group – was exciting, but also terribly frightening.
„I Know There’s Something Going On“ was one of those songs that just popped up one day. I felt immediately that this song was brilliant. That song also became the great hit on the album. It wasn’t exactly an easy song to sing. I had to really push myself to hit the high notes, which I believe gave the song a different sound. When I’m up on those notes, a steely kind of tone comes into my voice, and I think that helped the song. I’m very pleased with the way things are going.
I’m very, very pleased that Frida is pleased. I think that’s more important – that she has done what she wanted to do.
Since I am so terribly self-critical I was never really happy with anything I did back then. Now, with time and nostalgia, I can see that this is a great album. To me, it’s a time document – an ending of something, and a beginning of something else. Yep, I think it’s a good album. (smiles)
I’m very grateful to Thomas Johansson, our former promoter and dear friend. He used to push me to do new things. Thomas said, „Why don’t we ask Steve Lillywhite if he like to produce an album with you?“ And I thought, „Sure, why not! That will be a fun challenge.“ What I think happened with the album Shine – which we recorded in Paris – was, that we all went into the project with open minds. No one had any idea where this was going to land. I was more relaxed with Lillywhite and his crew in the studio. We had tons of fun, a lot of experimenting with the vocals – where to put a certain melody, or trying different tones. There was always something fun to work with and explore. It was an inspiring time.
In 1996, for the album Djupa Andetag – at that time, I hadn’t done music for many years – not since the album Shine, which was about twelve years back. My husband Ruzzo thought I seemed restless and suggested that I pick up music again. He was probably right about that! He encouraged me to start the process that eventually became Djupa Andetag. This album represented the woman I was at that time in my life. There are many songs I like on this album. I really like it and I stand by this album 100%.
Since Ruzzo initiated this album, there was a lot of love in it for him. It made us both very happy during that period of our lives.
Musically, I thought that that would be my last project. Good strong ending, I told myself.
But then, life wanted something different. My husband passed away. The year before I had also lost my daughter.
In the middle of all that sorrow, I met two amazing people – Jon Lord, the organist from Deep Purple, and his wife Vicky. He wrote a song to me. It’s called, „The Sun Will Shine Again.“
It’s a reminder that no matter how hard life is at times, the sun is always shining somewhere behind the darkness.
I’ve always been writing. I’ve written through hard times – and good, memorable times. One day I thought, „Maybe I should make my life into a book.“ I wanted to do it a bit differently. So I transformed my life into a fairytale. Since I’m a person who partially lives in a dream world, this fairytale theme fits well for me and my life.
Another collaboration has come about – something new, in present time. I recorded a song for a duet album that the trumpet player Arturo Sandoval has put together. I did a version of „Andante, Andante“ in Spanish on this album. Arturo plays so magically well on that track.
Music and singing always meant everything to me. Today, I also appreciate the music in silence. Silence has ist own melody, in a way. You should try to keep your creativity alive for as long as possible. My creative mind is what still keeps me going today – and I hope I’ll keep it through the rest of my life.
Every once in awhile, I wish I was younger and had the energy to do the things I did when I was younger.
That’s what makes this new ABBA project so much fun. It’s so exciting, because new technology is recreating ABBA, which will hopefully go on world tour. We won’t be personally there, but our avatars will be.
So I can sit back in my chair and enjoy listening to the music we once recorded. I can watch myself on stage as I looked in the 70s, while I was performing with the others.
I mean – honestly – does it get any better that that?

...schön das ich noch auf bin !
Ganzer toller Service Heiner...Danke !
